Rannoch - by Gary Paton

Route
- The
starting point (multimap)
for this distinctive munro is the forestry commission car
park a few kilometres west of Loch Kinerlochy, just before
the Braes of Foss. You will find a public toilet for those
who don't want to enjoy the complete out door experience.
- Join
the path to Schiehallion at the top of the carpark and make
your way across level moorland past several cairns. The path
is well marked and erosion is becoming an issue, it leads
to the shoulder of the mountain.
-
As
you gain height the terrain changes from peaty (read "boggy"
in wet weather) to boulder strewn, then finally really
rocky on the summit approach. For the scramblers out there,
if you traverse around the north side of the summit there's
plenty of opportunity to indulge yourself.
-
In
fine weather, the views from the summit (1083m, GR714548)
are excellent - along Loch Rannoch to Ben Alder and views
over Rannoch moor to Buchaille Etive Mor.
-
To
get back to the carpark follow the same route.
