Introduction

My work as a sports nutritionist is mainly with professional sports people, but I also work closely with athletes of all levels.

The majority of the sports nutritionist and sports science research is carried out on the non-elite athlete. As a result, the information within my articles is equally applicable to club and recreational sports people as to fully professional athletes.

Indeed a good awareness of nutrition and diet and its impact upon your sporting achievements and overall quality of life is important to allow any individual to achieve their personal goals. A good choice of diet, eaten in the correct balance and at the right time can provide an athlete with the chance to realise their true potential .........coupled obviously with good training and natural ability!

My Background

I have always been heavily involved in sport as far back as I can remember. I grew up playing a variety of sports (mostly team sports) which were played at school, district and Junior Scotland level. I have also competed internationally in cross country running - I have now turned my hand to adventure racing and I am a member of Columbia SALT (Scottish Adventures Ladies Team). I completed my first 7 day mountain bike race in the summer of 2006 in the Canadian Rockies.

After school, I completed a BSc (Hons) degree in Sports Science at De Montfort University, Bedford, followed by an MSc in Sports Nutrition at Aberdeen University followed by a PgDip in Dietetics at Queen Margaret University College in Edinburgh.
