Two easy routes (6 or 12 miles) to get you started round the scenic area of Loch an Eilein and Loch Morlich, near Aviemore. The second route is an extension of the first one.

Great way to get out and see the countryside of this area and the longer route is a scenic way to reach the campsite at Glenmore - an alternative to cycling along the busy ski road.

Please remember to close all gates and leave the land as you found it.

• Park in the car park at Inverdurie next to the shops
• Slightly further along the ski road take the road to the left and head for Blackpark (third road off to the left as you go up the ski road). Grid ref: 904108. Click here for close-up map.
• At Blackpark, take a left for Loch an Eilein along the track. You will go past a croft and through a couple of gates before you come to the single track road into the car park for Loch an Eilein.
• Continue along the track heading left through the forest that is clearly marked for mountain bikers.
• Follow this track remembering that there will be a fair number of walkers round the Loch.
• After a few miles you will reach the crossroads near Loch Deo. Grid ref: 916079.

Here you have the choice - do you have the pace to keep going and go for broke with the longer route??!

For the 6 Mile Trail

For a longer route (12 miles)

• At the next two junctions carry straight on following the signs through the forest.
• You will reach the east side of Loch Morlich ( Grid ref: 957097) and can either:
  • Turn left at the road to cycle back to Aviemore or
  • You can continue anti-clockwise (east) round Loch Morlich for further trails or to reach the campsite at Glenmore
