Introduction to Powerboating

Powerboating is a excellent sport with styles of boat to suit everyone, from personal watercraft ('jetskis') through to sportsboats and rigid inflatables.

It is one of the few sports that families can enjoy together and smaller boats can be trailed behind the car to different locations to explore and enjoy new areas of the country.

For many people, their first experience of powerboats comes with a trip on a friend’s boat. Most come back hooked and want more. Powerboats are fun, fast and exhilarating, and, with capable and sensible handling, a safe sport.

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) runs the National Powerboat scheme to meet the needs of everyone who uses small, open, powerboats for leisure or for work – whether for their own sake or in connection with another activity such as sailing or rescue.

In Scotland, Powerboat Scotland was formed by RYA Scotland to provide help and support to powerboaters and provide opportunities to take part in safe structured events that are also fun. The staff who manage the events are all RYA qualified Powerboat and Jetski Instructors, all of them with a great deal of experience of working in powered craft.
