Golf is a sport where the earlier you start, the better chance you have of becoming a great player. A great example of this is Tiger Woods who was featured on the Mike Douglas tv show at just 2 years of age when he demonstrated his driving skills with Bob Hope looking on enviously!

Learning to play golf from an early age, however, is not easy - you need the right guidance and of course a decent golf course to help you on your way. Then there is the cost involved – the golf clubs, green fees and tuition from a golf professional. On top of that, it is difficult to fit regular golf lessons into the all-important timetable of school life.

One way to solve the problem is to send your child to a school that has its own golf academy. There is a growing demand for school golf academies and it is not surprising when you consider what they can offer.

St Bees School not far from the Scottish Borders is a good example, attracting young golfers from all over the world to come and study there.

The key attractions of its Golf Academy are:

  • Run by a resident PGA professional
  • A range of professionally developed programmes are offered catering for different levels of ability & skill
  • Its own 9 hole links golf course
  • Full time, qualified green-keepers
  • State of the art golf studio
  • Video technology to analyse/improve technique
  • Artificial putting green and designated chipping area
